F1 in Schools - An experience beyond the classroom
What is F1 in Schools? Imagine taking all the excitement of Formula 1 racing—the speed, the innovation, the precision—and shrinking it down to a mini race car designed and built by students. That’s F1 in Schools. It’s an international STEM competition where teams of students work together to design, build, and race miniature cars. But it’s not just about engineering. Just like in real-world racing, teams have to manage their car’s design, marketing, branding, finances, and even sponsorships. Think of it as a real-world engineering proposal… but with a little more speed and a lot more fun.
Our Team and How We Work
We are the Roosevelt Racers, a group of high school students who have been competing in F1 in Schools since 2017. In our three years of participation, we’ve made it to Nationals every time—and this year, we’re going for even bigger goals!
But we’re not just about racing—we’re about making a difference. Our team works hard to promote STEM education at Roosevelt High School and beyond. Whether it’s through workshops, outreach initiatives, or just sharing what we’ve learned on social media, we believe in inspiring others to dive into the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. F1 in Schools gives us the perfect platform to do that.
We’re a small but mighty team of six, with a perfect balance of engineering and business roles. Our members are:
Project Managers (the glue that keeps us together),
Resource Manager (who makes sure we’ve got the tools and funding we need),
Graphic Designer (the one behind our awesome branding),
Design Engineer (who turns our ideas into reality),
Simulation Engineer (who makes sure our cars are race-ready), and
Product Engineer (the mastermind behind our car’s performance).
While each of us has our own specialty, we know that teamwork is everything. We tackle problems together, support each other’s ideas, and share our skills to create the best results. It’s not just about building a car—it’s about building a team.
Expanding STEM Beyond Our Team
One of the most rewarding parts of being in F1 in Schools is the ability to share what we’ve learned with others. Our Roosevelt Racers School Club is one of the ways we do this. With over 250 members, it’s a place where students can get hands-on experience, simulate their own F1 teams, and learn about the different aspects of the competition. And it's not just about the tech side—we also focus on the business side, helping students understand how sponsorships and marketing fit into the bigger picture of F1 racing.
We also run the Roosevelt Racer STEM Workshops (RRSW), where we bring NYC’s 8th graders into the world of F1 in Schools for a day of hands-on learning. They get to design, build, and race their own cars, all while learning about engineering and business in a fun, interactive way. The best part? At the end of the day, they race their cars down our in-house track—a thrilling experience that brings all their hard work to life.
For us, F1 in Schools isn’t just a competition. It’s an opportunity to push the boundaries of what we can do and help others discover the magic of STEM. The skills we’re developing—teamwork, problem-solving, communication—are essential, no matter where our future careers take us. But it’s also about the bigger picture. We want to inspire others to get excited about science and technology and help build a community that values innovation and creativity.
Whether it’s through the school club, workshops, or just chatting about F1 in Schools on social media, we’re passionate about sharing our journey. We know this experience will shape who we are, and we want to pass that knowledge along to others. At the end of the day, it’s not just about the race—it’s about creating lasting impact, one workshop, one student, one idea at a time.
So, here’s to pushing ourselves, racing toward new challenges, and making STEM accessible and exciting for everyone.

And if you’re a student or educator interested in STEM, we’d love to have you join our club or attend one of our workshops. Together, we can make STEM education both fun and impactful!
